Mas des Serres — stone farmhouse above the heated pool and lawn, near Saint-Paul-de-Vence
Saint-Paul-de-Vence, Alpes-Maritimes

The village that Matisse, Chagall and Léger never quite left.

A centuries-old Provençal mas and its dependencies, a few minutes from Saint-Paul-de-Vence — six bedrooms, a twenty-metre heated pool, and gardens beneath the light of the Midi.

The Mas

A centuries-old mas, gently reimagined.

Mas des Serres sits on the Route des Serres, the road that winds up to Saint-Paul-de-Vence — the village that became, in the mid-twentieth century, an unlikely home to some of the era's most significant painters. Parts of the main house are thought to be more than three hundred years old, from a time when animals were kept on the ground floor and the family lived above. Today the estate is a main house and three dependencies: a bungalow of four independent rooms, each with its own door onto a private terrace; a self-contained two-bedroom apartment; and a caretaker's cottage.

Said to have been one of the first auberges in the Saint-Paul-de-Vence area, the property has welcomed guests for generations. Today, under the same ownership as Château Fengari, it is being restored room by room, with each guest space named for a painter who once called this village home.

The Main House

The private heart of the estate.

The original farmhouse remains the family's own — not part of the rental, but the soul of the place: a stone sitting room, a long table made for gatherings, and rooms lived in for generations.
